From North Texas Airsoft Wiki
Load Bearing Equipment is just a fancy word for gear. This may include: Backpacks, Chest Rigs, Plate carriers, Tactical Vest, Pouches and much more…
First, here are a couple of useful terms to know.
Contents |
Molle
This a system in which you mount pouches onto. It is 1 in horizontal slots that you attach pouches etc. to, by weaving tabs on the back of the pouches onto the actual molle. This is the most common and newest mounting system available.
ALICE
This refers to an older style attachment system that uses metal tabs that slide into the equipment and lock into themselves.
Plate Carrier
this refers to a piece of equipment that can house bullet proof plates. They come in all colors, shapes, and sizes, and usually have a mole attachment system on them. These range from $30 to upwards of $1000 depending on quality, type, brand, etc.
Chest Rig
This is a molle attachment system that fits on the user’s chest, and can be in the form of a panel, or rectangular platform. It does not offer the ability to hold a plate, but is still an excellent way to carry all of your magazines, batteries, etc.
Tactical Vest
This is a vest with pre-determined pouches, that restricts the users ability to pick and choose what he/she needs, but is an easy and cost efficient way to get a piece of gear that will do what you need it to do.
Basic Gear
Some basic gear that a new player needs is the following:
- hydration carrier
- couple of pouches to hold items
- a system to attach the pouches to
- boots
Manufacturers
There are plenty of companies out there that sell what you need, and for what price you want it at.
Low Cost
Here are some examples of inexpensive, cost efficient gear companies:
- Condor
- OE tech
- Matrix
- UTG
Mid Level
Here are some examples of Medium range, better quality gear companies:
- Flyye
- Pantac
- Condor high end line
- Issued Surplus gear
High End
Here are some High quality real world gear companies:
- Eagle Industries
- London Bridge Trading
- Tactical Taylor
- Diamondback Tactical
Most low end- middle range gear companies function for Airsoft just fine, as Airsoft does not put nearly as much stress on a piece of gear as actual combat would. High end gear is not completely necessary, unless one so desires.
Before going out to purchase your gear, read some reviews online, ask around at games, and check on the forums. You want to be sure that what you purchase will fit your needs as you so desire. When you finally make up your mind, try to find it local first, as it is a good idea to support local stores first. This helps out the community, and helps further airsoft in the metroplex. However, if you cannot find it locally, Craigslist, Ebay, and Airsoftgi.com offer great gear, at great deals.
